Lifetime Achievement Award
The ARW Lifetime Achievement Award was established in 2006 as a way of recognizing those whose contributions to ARW have been both extensive and extraordinary. Their lives have exemplified the very principles that ARW strives to teach, as they use play, worship, and the arts to transform and build up the community of faith.
Throughout the history of ARW, these individuals have served in a variety of ways and have been honored because they meet the criteria shown below:
- Attended ARW a minimum of 25 years
- Served in leadership capacities, including course leader, steering committee member or officer.
- Provided extraordinary leadership while serving in the above capacities as well as when attending ARW as a participant
2007 – Glenn Q. Bannerman
Almost every person who has ever attended ARW has benefited from the leadership of Glenn Bannerman! In presenting the award, Lynn Turnage said, “There are generations of people of all ages who have learned so much from Glenn, including the joy and value of playing together with little or no emphasis on competition, the importance of helping the activities to flow together smoothly, and that, as leaders we need to “do it and then talk about it.”
Glenn was recognized in the 50th year of participating in ARW. He taught at PSCE until his retirement in 1989 and is Professor Emeritus of Recreation and Outdoor Ministry. He and his wife, Evelyn, also a very talented recreation leader, live in Montreat, NC. They have four children and ten grandchildren, many of whom are active in ARW and/or in recreation ministry.
